Rescuing Dogs
59Rescue on a Shoe String
Angela Sera has a heart filled with compassion, commitment, and a passion for rescuing dogs and horses from abusive situations. She works literally, tirelessly, to get the job done. Angela takes the dogs that no one else wants: rescuing from high kill shelters, trash dumps, and the Corridor of Cruelty out of Houston.
Angela will take those others don’t know how to handle that are aggressive towards other dogs, unsocialized, and rehabs them, giving them the first home many of them have ever known. She currently cares for 63 dogs. She also has a passion for horses, but is limited due to the cost of each horse. She currently has 4 that she has rescued. Those who don’t have a home or fail to be adopted will live out their lives at the sanctuary.
Angela established Dogtown Ranch, Rescue, and Rehab Sanctuary in, on 20 acres out in the quiet countryside. The dogs/horses spend their time healing in a setting with lots of sunshine, where they can hear the wind blow and listen peacefully without the sounds of their prior setting filled with abuse, fear, and loneliness. Dogs like Mugsy, for whom a medical account was established at the Sanctuary’s vet for those that cannot afford medical care in their time of need.
Angela has been doing so much for so long that she can do practically anything with nothing. And that is the bottom line of the problem: she has literally been living on a shoe string. Angela has been out of work for 18 months, has used up her retirement account early on, and has not found a job she qualifies as she is repeatedly told she is “over qualified”. Angela has been relying on sporadic funds through fundraisers, donations, resourcing, and asking for help.
And that is why I have brought this to your attention: Angela is not a 501C which would entitle her to apply for a myriad of grants that would give her financial stability, do much needed upkeep on the ranch, and spend more time with her passion: the animals. She might even be able to hire someone to help her as she does this totally alone.
Can you imagine that? And she does it well, but she will eventually ruin her health for which she has no medical insurance for due to the long hours of work, or due to being exhausted-make a mistake and get hurt. She is only human. She could properly train volunteers or paid staff which would lighten her load. Prior to being laid off, she had been working 40 hours and caring for as many animals as she has now.
I have started a Chip In to which I challenge each and every one who reads this to donate 1$, a cup of coffee or candy bar out of your lifetime, to help Angela file for her 501C status. That is all. She has her paperwork ready to go and in order but is helpless due to her current financial condition. Help Angela help the animals, as she has always done.
If you have any questions, do not contact Angela by email or phone if you know her: call Holly Murray, 512-658-1390. Email: hollywouldone@yahoo.com.
